August 2024: A Love That Travels, Fernanda and Jon’s Three-Day Nantahala Wedding Adventure
“For us, it wasn’t just about a single day—it was about creating days of unforgettable memories, surrounded by the people we love in a place that felt like home. Our wedding was more than an event; it was a magical adventure,” says Fernanda. Hosted at the breathtaking Nantahala Weddings & Events in the serene mountains of North Carolina, their wedding was a three-day celebration filled with wild beauty, laughter, and connection. And true to their roots, the festivities didn’t stop when the music did—because at a Latino party, the dancing and camaraderie last long into the night. Yet somehow, everyone still rallied for adventures the next morning, ready to create even more memories.
How They Met
Their love story began in the hustle of New York City when Fernanda, fresh to Wall Street and searching for WiFi, wandered into an Irish pub. Jon, a bartender at the time, struck up a conversation, and something clicked. What could have been a passing moment turned into something more when Fernanda returned the next day. From that point, their lives became inseparable, and a once-unremarkable pub became the start of their extraordinary journey.
Careers and Shared Dreams
Fernanda and Jon’s love story is built on balance. Fernanda’s investment banking career drives her fast-paced life, while Jon, a neuroscientist turned real estate investor, offers grounding and perspective. Despite their ambitious careers, their hearts belong to the outdoors, dreaming of climbing the Himalayas and owning cabins in remote locations like Maine or Alaska. Their wedding, like their life together, was designed to reflect their shared vision of connection and simplicity amidst natural beauty.
A Gathering of International Love
With guests flying in from Brazil, Ireland, and England, Fernanda and Jon wanted their wedding to feel like a true gathering of families. The natural beauty of Nantahala served as a perfect “home base,” blending seclusion, serenity, and flexibility for multiple days of celebration. The couple wove Brazilian and Irish traditions into the event, including a lively samba dance-off that got everyone moving and a toast featuring Irish blessings to honor Jon’s heritage.
The Magic of Nantahala
The Smoky Mountains created a natural masterpiece for Fernanda and Jon’s ceremony. Framed by panoramic peaks and enhanced by vibrant wildflowers, the setting needed little embellishment. “We didn’t need much,” Fernanda shared. “Nature did most of the decorating for us.” The color palette—soft greens, whites, and earthy tones—was chosen to complement the lush surroundings, while a cozy lounge area with wicker chairs and bohemian pillows invited guests to relax and soak in the view.
Three Days of Celebration
Fernanda and Jon’s wedding wasn’t just a day—it was an adventure. From casual welcome drinks to mountain hikes, they ensured their guests felt included and cared for throughout the weekend. One unforgettable moment came during the welcome dinner when a rogue firefly wandered into Fernanda’s wine glass, sparking a chorus of laughter and awe at the magic of the mountains. Late-night parties stretched into the early hours, with music, dancing, and joy that felt endless. And yet, every morning, guests were ready for the next round of activities, energized by the couple’s contagious spirit.
The Wedding Dress and Design
Fernanda’s dress, custom-made by a Brazilian designer, reflected her elegant yet free-spirited style. It featured delicate lace accents and a flowing silhouette, perfectly complementing the wildflower bouquets and natural décor. Every design choice was intentional, from the cascading florals on the ceremony arch to the charcuterie table at the reception, which added a welcoming, communal touch.
Details That Made a Difference
Their photographer, flown in from Brazil, was a close friend who knew the couple’s story intimately. This personal connection brought a unique perspective to the photos, capturing moments that felt as raw as they were timeless. “It was important to us that every detail reflected who we are, from the photography to the florals,” Jon said. Even small touches, like a guestbook filled with handwritten notes and the decision to keep cell phones away during the ceremony, made the event feel personal and grounded.
Looking Forward
After the wedding, Fernanda and Jon are dreaming of their next adventure—climbing the Himalayas, exploring more remote escapes, and maybe even starting a family. Whether they’re scaling mountains or building a home, their journey will always reflect their shared love for balance, connection, and a life lived boldly together.
