Nantahala Weather in October

October brings the first consistent hard frosts, and with hard frosts come autumn’s glory. Day time highs in the low 70s, and average evening temps in the 40s, then dropping into the 30s in the wee hours of the morning. Your guests will enjoy gazing at the fall color and sitting around the bonfire in the evening. Hydrangeas surrounding the reception pavilion garden turn dusty-rose, or mauve.

Betsy and Nick’s NC Mountain Fall Destination Wedding on Lake Nantahala

Betsy and Nick win the title of “most perfectly orchestrated wedding in 2022” at Nantahala Weddings & Events and probably the most perfectly orchestrated wedding EVER at our venue.

Their gorgeous Sun and Moon arbor was meticulously handcrafted by one of the finest craftsmen we have ever encountered (father of the bride). Every detail was engineered with precision, and no expense was spared on materials used (high quality lumber, copper, bronze, leather, steel cables).

The tree podium for the officiant really looks like a tree rising out of the ground with moss covering its base! The top is made of slate with a wooden frame. They had a barn owl named Annabelle deliver the rings, compliments of Hawk Manor Falconry.

The bride’s father trailered his black Model T Ford all the way from Chattanooga for a truly grand entrance. The table decorations were so resplendent and varied, I cannot even begin to describe them. The passion between this couple was the most incredible décor of all! Just have a look at these photos and you’ll see what I mean.

Her is Betsy and Nick’s Love Story, in their own words…

Betsy met Nick at Fort Loudoun State Park in Vonore, Tennessee in 1996 while dressed in 18th century clothes and pretending to load a cannon. They didn’t see much of each other for the next 23 years, but Nick often watched Betsy’s famous (infamous to some) “Punch & Judy” puppet shows without knowing it was her behind the curtain. In 2019 their families reconnected through a mutual friend, and on December 25th, 2019, Nick walked through Betsy’s front door carrying a salad, and she fell in love, due to his devastatingly good looks (and the salad was delicious). Nick knew he was in love too, and they were engaged four weeks later.

Both Betsy and Nick dream of peace on Earth, equal rights and justice for all, and seeing the world’s natural beauty appreciated and protected. Betsy is a bit more cynical than Nick when it comes to human nature (maybe because she is a historian). But Betsy is learning from Nick how to forgive and see the best in humanity, while Nick has learned from Betsy how to be a justice warrior (among many other things). They both look forward to enjoying life, making a home together somewhere peaceful, and hopefully leaving the world better than how they found it.

Both Betsy and Nick grew up near the Appalachian mountains, and the Blue Ridge in particular will always be special to them. It seemed only natural to wed there. Nantahala Weddings was the perfect place to tie the knot, because no where else is the beauty of the mountains on such display. They had a lot of help on their special day, Jody and their wedding coordinator Shayla were spectacular, and food, DJs, and drinks were the best on the mountain. They even had a barn owl named Annabelle as the ring bearer! They wed in October amongst the dazzling red and orange hues of the falling leaves, and the memory of their magical wedding night will continue to bring them bliss for the rest of their days.
