Nantahala Weather in January
January brings in the winter season with magnificent views and quietude on Lake Nantahala. Winter’s sparse vegetation provides an uninterrupted panorama of long-range mountains. January and February are the most likely months for snow. Average highs are in the 50s, nightly lows around 30.

Skylar and Matt’s Love Story
How and where did you first meet?
Matt and I, contrary to popular belief, met on a dating app. Ironically enough, we are locals to our area, know all the same people, worked 15 minutes from one another and lived only 7 miles apart but had never met each other. We are convinced that we had to be at the same places at the same times and have lost count of the things we know we frequented unbeknownst to the other at the time.
At what point did you realize you were in love?
Both of us absolutely knew this was unlike anything we had ever experienced on our first date. Matt texted me after our first date, saying “Congratulations you have ruined me. I never want to know another day in this world without you in it.” We had met up at Kickback Jacks, and in his true old-man fashion we met for dinner at 630. Needless to say, we were so lost in our own conversation, we didn’t realize that we had closed the restaurant down at midnight just getting to know one another. We both say, a lot of people say they don’t believe in love at first sight, but we are proof it’s a real thing!
What life goals and dreams do you share?
Healthy, happy, peaceful lives. We want to be successful in our own right, and travel. But most importantly make lasting memories with us and our kids. We are pretty funny people between the two of us and we strive to always be able to laugh in any situation. Never lose our faith in each other and why we got married to begin with.
What have you learned from each other?
Skylar: “Matt has taught me patience in the highest regard. That I am worthy and deserving and that he is my safe space.”
Matt: “Skylar has taught me what real love is and that I am deserving of it.”
What do you most look forward to in your life together?
We most look forward to really being here and now. Enjoying each day we are given with each other and our families. Making the time count.
Why did you choose Nantahala for your wedding?
When we chose Nantahala, out of all our research, we had hard stops. We knew that having both been married before, we wanted to elope, we wanted it to be cold/snow-capped mountains, but mostly we wanted something that fit us. When we stumbled upon Nantahala, looking online it was very romantic. Immediately we both knew that it had the romance and the escape we were looking for. What sealed the deal for us was Jody. She called us within hours of requesting information, and although elopement wasn’t her forte at the time, she worked with us. For us, we were just elated to be able to have the special moment we wanted. She was beyond accommodating, and really aligned with what would make the day special for us. Honestly, I am tearing up typing this because we knew we were on a budget and didn’t have any expectations. Jody and her cohorts absolutely knocked it out of the park. That weekend was seriously one of the best experiences of our lives to date. While we didn’t get the snow-capped mountains we were hoping for, it was the brightest sunniest day it had been in weeks instead. We like to think that is just an example of our outlook on life. Not only did we walk away married to each other’s best friend, but every detail from the view to the food, the stay, all were exactly what we. We wouldn’t change a thing.
