Fall Mountain Wedding – Nyreisha and Gordon Brown

Ny and Gordon met while they were both active-duty US Navy. When Ny booked her fall mountain wedding in Nantahala, Covid-19 was surging. she was on a 9-month deployment on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Her entire ship was quarantined in Guam. Yes – this is the ship you read about in the news! Gordon was back in San Diego taking care of their first son, Ronin. Ryson came along later.

Nyreisha and Gordon’s love story, in Ny’s own words…

Gordon and I met through mutual friends. I first saw him at a Christmas party in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I worked up the courage (4 margaritas later) to talk to him and my first words were, “Hi, I like your face.” He didn’t respond and I was so embarrassed I thought we’d never talk again. We ended up hanging out a few times after that with our group of friends. Fast forward a month, we were at karaoke. I asked him if he wanted a lollipop. After searching my pockets, I realized I only had the one I was currently eating, so I told him we could share. I have a horrible habit of chewing my candy sticks and cup straws. Somewhere down the line, I chewed and broke the stick. I told Gordon if he wanted more of my lollipop, he’d have to kiss me. So he did!

“I bet you’ll say I love you first.”

I remember sitting on a blue couch in Gordon’s room. I jokingly said, “I bet you’ll say I love you first.” He laughed. Then he said: “I don’t mind saying it. Yes, I do love you.” I think I knew it too, but hearing him say it was like, POOF PEEEEW. Like explosions going off!

Goals and dreams

Gordon and I share quite a few goals and dreams. Mostly for the boys. We want to be able to raise them in a home they’ll remember with fondness. Teach them to love and be kind in the way that God intends. Gordon wants to work in the field of national wildlife reserve. I am currently more than halfway through my ultrasound technician degree as well as working on my first music EP. Fingers crossed for Nashville!

Love and patience

I’m not completely certain what Gordon has learned from me. But I can tell you, if there’s one thing Gordon has taught me better than anyone else, it’s love and patience. Before I met Gordon, I had no idea what it really meant to love someone else. Or what it felt like to be loved in return. I read Bible verses and I think of him. I hear love songs and can replace the lyrics with his name, and it still fits perfectly. And patience. I’m more mindful of the way my actions can affect someone, even in the smallest ways. Learning how to live alongside someone and raise children together takes work. But we are figuring it out, together.

Old, gray, and mushy

What I look forward to the most for our future, is being old, gray, and mushy together, and still loving each other like we did in our 20s. I want to be sitting on the couch next to him, playing Tonk for years to come. I want to snuggle and watch scary movies until my eyes can’t see anymore. As long he’s there, the future is perfect.

Why Nantahala?

Nantahala was a special choice for two reasons. My grandfather is very sick, and I wanted him to be able to attend my beautiful fall mountain wedding. But when I FOUND Nantahala Weddings & Events, I knew it couldn’t be anywhere else. Nantahala spoke to me in a way that complimented my love story perfectly. I just knew.
